La rue Mouffetard is one of the oldest streets in Paris,  dating back to Neolithic times. In Roiman times it was the start of the road to Italy. Today it is a pedestrian market street. InI A Movable Feast Ernest Hemmingway refers to La Rue Mouffetard as “that wonderful narrow crowded market street which led into the Place Contrescarpe”.
